Cap-d'Ail is a quiet seaside village between Monaco and Nice, famous for its villas and the coastal path that runs beneath them.
The Sentier du Littoral follows the rocks from Plage Mala to the edge of Monaco — a walk of about an hour, with places to swim off the rocks along the way. Above the path, the Belle Époque villas of the cap sit in their gardens; Greta Garbo, Winston Churchill and the Lumière family all stayed here.
The village has a bakery, a market, a handful of restaurants and everything else you need. Behind it, the Tête de Chien rises to 550 metres, and the hiking paths start from the top of the road.

Plage Mala to Monaco in about an hour on foot, mostly flat, along the water.

Restaurants on the beach and in the village; the hotel bar for aperitifs.
Further afield
Nice in 25 minutes by train, Menton and Italy in the other direction.
